Pillow is automatic sleep tracking app for iOS which will essentially use the technologies on your device to measure your sleeping pattern. Pillow is available for Apple Watch, iPhone and iPad.
I’ve been testing it out for a while now and I love the app! I have an Apple Watch which gives you more insight into your sleep as you don’t need to be close to your phone and it can measure your resting heart rate.
As I’ve been using the app for months now, I thought it would be a good idea to provide my own review on it.
The app has a premium mode which comes with a subscription fee that you can pay monthly or annually. Detail of this will be displayed when you first launch the app but you can use it freely for the main features you need.
The company behind this app has offered some premium features free to everyone as their response to help customers during COVID-19. You can read about this in the version history of the app download page. Click here to visit the App Store.

Automatic Mode5/5 AmazingIf you're like me then automatic mode will be your first choice. I don't go to sleep at the same time each day and often find myself watching tv in bed. The automatic mode will detect when you've fallen asleep and then track your sleep throughout the night. It seem pretty accurate to be fair. I like that there's no buttons to press, you can literally just fall asleep and thanks to the app integration with the Apple Watch, it will learn when you've went to sleep and start tracking.
Manual Mode5/5 AmazingManual mode is available only with iPad and iPhone. This is because it puts you in control and let's you do things like record audio from your sleep. In manual mode, you essentially tell the app when you're going to sleep so the full automatic detection is disabled until you tell it to start.
Accuracy4/5 GoodI have mostly found the app to be accurate for me however there have been some occasions where it has said I've had very little sleep yet I've felt like I had like double what the app is saying. That has only happened the odd time and not recently though so I'm only marking it down 1 point.
Design5/5 AmazingThere is no doubt about it, the app is beautiful to use! Can't fault the design one bit. If we compare it to other apps out there it would win hands down on design.
Analysis5/5 AmazingThe apps daily reporting is stunning. It shows a breakdown of Awake, REM, Light Sleep and Deep Sleep. There is also a report which shows you sleep quality over time. The app syncs it's data with Apple Health so you can use the Apple apps to track your sleep too!
- Syncs Across All Devices
- Stunning App
- Nap Mode - Track short sleeps
- Simple to use
- Not available on Android
- Feels like there could be more options
- Not very customisable design wise
